The Job Light Vehicle Maintenance apprenticeship. The role as a technician in a Land Rover retailer has changed considerably in the last few years. With cars that use some of the most advanced technology in the world, the ability to service and maintain high performance vehicles has required a new breed of technician. Working in a team, the ability to carefully manage customer expectations through service and repair works is as important as repairing vehicles right first time. The Apprentice Programme prepares technicians for the future with underpinning traditional values and skills, whilst ensuring industry leading standards are achieved. Technicians will enjoy working on award winning cars and will receive Academy training as well as coaching and mentoring in the workplace. So what is a Light Vehicle Service Technician? The apprenticeship is geared toward training the right candidate to become a fully-fledged Light Vehicle Service Technician. But what does a Light Vehicle Service Technician actually do? The Light Vehicle Service Technician role varies slightly by employer based upon the specific needs to the location. The below explanation is therefore a guide to support you in understanding what the role might entail. Light Vehicle Service Technicians service and repair vehicles such as cars, and vans up to 3.5 tonnes. Technicians are trained in all areas of vehicle mechanics and electronics, from engine and exhaust systems to air conditioning and security features. The duties of a light vehicle service technician may include: • Servicing vehicles – carrying out checks and maintenance according to the manufacturers’ guidelines • Repairing and replacing faulty parts and components • Advising the Service Receptionists about required repairs • Producing time estimates • Maintaining repair and service records
Training Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance: 24 months Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance: 12 months
Wage Scales The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £3.30 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Wage for apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.
Entry GCSE grade A – C in Maths, English and ICT (or equivalent) and one other subject preferably a Science. This will be checked.
